Welcome to Portobello Angling Club

We are one of Ireland's best-known and most active coarse angling clubs and were founded in 1995. From our Dublin base we fish lakes, rivers and canals almost nationwide. With a range of angling ability and dedication, we are always open to new members from any background.

Scroll down for our latest news and the club calendar which also includes dates of dozens of matches across the country. If you'd like to get involved just give us a call - or you might even bump into us on the bank. Tight lines!

Note to members

A text message is sent to all members and friends a few days before each match. Please let us know if you are fishing the match or not by replying to this text as soon as possible. If you change your mind closer to the match please let us know. Once the draw has been made on the bank we can't include you in a match unless you've told us you will be late.

Portobello Annual General Meeting - 20 March

The club's AGM took place on Saturday, 20 March 2010. You can read the Secretary/Treasurer's 2009 Report here. The main decisions taken at the AGM were:

> Richie Keegan and Alan Aphidean elected to committee

> Club match pools increased from €10 to €15. Section payout will stay the same but overall (1st/2nd/3rd) payout will double. This means that for a 15 peg match the overall payout would be €75, €50, €25 respectively

> Golden peg will be drawn using only pegs from competing anglers

  • > No more monthly meetings. Instead, committee meetings every second month.

Portobello anglers at National Angling Show

Henry Norton and Eoin Schweppe helped out the Fisheries Boards at the National Angling Show in Swords in February. Henry and Eoin demonstrated knot tying, coarse angling rigs and bait selection to young and older anglers alike. It was part of the Board's efforts to raise awareness and participation in coarse angling across Ireland.

Golden Peg Winner - Alan Aphidean!

Congratulations to Alan Aphidean who won the Golden Peg grand total of €322 in the Christmas fish-off at Lakelands Fishery, Roosky.
