Portobello Angling Club was founded in
Dublin in 1995. The club has 18 members and is
affiliated to the National Coarse Fishing Federation of
Ireland (NCFFI). We also have close links with the
Central Fisheries Board, the
Eastern Region Fisheries
Board and the Dublin Angling Initiative. The club enjoys
a close relationship with our local tackle shop,
Southside Angling, on Cork Street, Dublin 8.
Anyone can fish our matches
The club runs Spring and
Winter Leagues in venues across Ireland, with 8 matches
in each league. Matches usually take place on the first
and third Sundays of each month. Anyone may fish these
matches subject to a match fee of €5.
Matches across some of the best venues in Ireland
The club's matches take place on a wide variety of
venues across counties Dublin, Wicklow, Offaly, Kildare,
Carlow, Meath, Westmeath, Roscommon, Cavan, Monaghan and
Louth, with our most popular venues being Killykeen,
Eonish, Church Lake, Castle Lake, Lakelands Fishery,
Lough Barnagrow, Blessington, Baird's Shore and the
Royal and Grand Canals.
National and international representatives
Our members successfully
compete in open competitions and festivals throughout
Ireland, and Richie Keegan recently represented Ireland
in the Celtic Championship in Scotland. The club has
held a successful Open Competition at the end of every
August since 2003.
Run by our members, for our members
The club is run by its
members through an elected committee of five members who
meet regularly to review club developments and
activities. Committee recommendations are ratified by
the club members through a voting system.
Club meetings, which are open
to all paid-up members, take place on the first Tuesday
of every month, from 8:15 to 9:30pm, in Murray's Public
House, Kilmainhan, Dublin 8. The club's AGM and annual
prize-giving takes place in January of each year.
NEW MEMBERS OF ANY STANDARD AND FROM ANY BACKGROUND ARE
ALWAYS VERY WELCOME.
