Grand Canal, Rhode, Co Offaly - 11 September 2011
Match report Gale force winds forced a change of venue from the Royal Canal at Longwood to the Grand Canal at Rhode for the first match of the 2011 Winter League. With hardly a tinge of colour in the water it was always going to be hard, and so it proved. Henry Norton used end-peg advantage to its utmost and fished pole and pinkie over small balls of ground bait to take about 50 very small roach for 1.940 kg. Richie Keegan fished similar tactics but with a smaller stamp of fish his 66 roach amounted to just 830 grams, and John Fox concentrated on catching better quality fish for 510 grams. Meanwhile Andy Benson used his match experience to target resident perch with chopped worm on the pole down the track and 420 grams.
